FILE PHOTO - Construction workers are undertaking a major remodel and building additions at Reynolds High.The Mt. Hood Cable Regulatory Commission added to a grant to Reynolds School District to give teachers more technology training.

The original grant for $1.3 million was made in 2015 to use technology to improve math instruction. MHCRC added $114,407 to "successfully fulfill the original spirit and intent of the grant." The money will be used for technology coaching. The grant runs through Oct. 31, 2019.

MHCC hosts forums for president search

Mt. Hood Community College has scheduled two public meetings for people to share what they would like to see in a new college president.

The first public meeting is from noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the college's Visual Arts Theatre, 26000 S.E. Stark St. followed by a second one from 6:30-8 p.m. that day at David Douglas High School, 1001 S.E. 135th Ave. MHCC is seeking to replace Debra Derr, who announced she would step down effective June 30, 2018.

There is also a survey asking for input on the MHCC web page at The three-question survey will be open until Dec. 5.

Gresham-Barlow board members earn awards

Two Gresham-Barlow School Board members earned special recognition from the Oregon School Boards Association's Leadership Institute. John Hartsock got a platinum award, the highest level, for completing OSBA leadership course work. Sharon Garner earned a bronze award.

"This award recognizes those local school board members whose volunteer service and dedication help create a better future for Oregon's children," said Jim Green, OSBA's executive director.

Honeybee Hikes scheduled at Leach

Leach Botanical Gardens, S.E. 122nd Ave., continues its popular Honeybee Hikes through mid-December. The walks, for children ages 2-5, will be from 10-11 a.m. Wednesdays, Dec. 6 and 13. The stroll costs $3 per child and the required adult companion is free. Dress for the weather. The 122nd Avenue bridge south of Foster Road is closed, but the garden can be accessed from 122nd. Paint ornaments at Troutdale library

Artists Terri and Wayne Jones will lead kids and their families in a free workshop to paint holiday ornaments.

The library will have a wide assortment of baubles that can be painted and taken home that day.

It also supplies a ribbon, lead-free paint, colorful mats, aprons, water buckets, paint brushes and everything needed for painting. The workshop will be 2-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Troutdale Library, 2451 S.W. Cherry Park Road. Call 503-988-5123 for more information.
