Hooray! Hollydale has a new playground
The Hollydale Heroes got to play on their shiny new playground Thursday, July 5, during a ribbon cutting party. And if that wasn't enough, there were popsicles all around.
"It's awesome," said fourth-grader Ethan Vasquez, surveying the huge play yard. He figures the four-person teeter-totter will probably be his favorite.
The new playground was paid for by a $291.2 million bond Gresham-Barlow School District voters passed in November 2016. The bond also is paying for substantial remodels of Gresham and Barlow high schools and replacement of East and North Gresham elementary schools. Hollydale Elementary also will get some added classrooms and all schools are getting safety and security upgrades.
Hollydale's bright lime green and turquoise play equipment is cushioned by a spongy, black "carpet" to protect any falls that might occur.
Mason Palmer, a second-grader thinks the new swings will be his favorite part of the new playground. Looking at all the new play structures, Mason said, "I like it!"
