'Beyond Whimsy' runs April 3-27 in lobby

This month, the Wy’east Artisans Guild presents “Beyond Whimsy,” an art show “designed to bring the April Fools Day spirit to life.”

The exhibit coincides with Sandy Actors Theatre’s production of William Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” this month (see story above).

The guild will host a public reception at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, April 3, in the Sandy Actors Theatre, 39181 Pioneer Blvd. The reception will be followed by a dress rehearsal performance of “Twelfth Night.”by: CONTRIBUTED PHOTO - Vernon Groffs Dog in Blue pokes fun at Thomas Gainsboroughs famous 1770 painting The Blue Boy. “This wonderful farce features confused identities, motives and gender, and it begs the question: ‘Is anything what it seems?’” the guild states in a press release.

“That question is one everyone should ask, and one that artists ponder all the time,” the guild says. “Artists often go beyond the usual ‘what we see is what we get’ philosophy and peel away the obvious, to find a new orientation, to look with new eyes and to create something fresh from the everyday stuff of their lives.”

Seating for the April 3 reception is on a first-come, first-served basis. Donations benefit the guild’s nonprofit public programs.
