Centennial puts up three in the third and ends Gresham's title hopes

Centennial's baseball team cleared up the Mount Hood Conference title chase with a 3-0 win over Gresham on Wednesday.

The Eagles win gives the crown to Central Catholic (12-3), while Gresham (10-5) settles for second place. Reynolds (8-7) and Centennial tied for third, but the Raiders get the final automatic spot for state based on winning the season series between the teams.

The Eagles put up all three runs in the third inning, highlighted by Mike McGuire's two-run double that crashed into the left-field fence.

That would be more than enough for Centennial pitcher Corey Messineo, who retired the Gophers in order four times and struck out five.
