Amber Peschka scores twice in Greshams 3-1 win Thursday night

by: THE OUTLOOK: DAVID BALL - Greshams Bailey Allen settles the ball in the Centennial zone against Eagles midfielder Elise Morrow.

The Gresham girls soccer team stayed unbeaten in the Mount Hood Conference with a convincing 3-1 win over Centennial on Thursday night.

The Gophers put the match out of reach 31 seconds into the second half when Bailey Allen made a throw-in at midfield, feeding teammate Aileen Cruz-Velasco for a run down the right side. She took four strides along the edge of the 18-yard box before looping a high ball to the far post.

Gresham’s Amber Peschka was in position to deflect the ball into the net for a 3-0 lead.

“That was huge, giving us a bigger cushion,” Gresham coach Kathy Childress said. “Once you get it to three goals, it starts to feel out of reach.”

Peschka and Cruz-Velasco accounted for the team’s two first-half goals.

Centennial broke up the shut out with 30 minutes to play when Abbi Eyestone pounced on a rebound at the front of the goal and put it past the keeper from about 5 yards out.
