The Rams stay unbeaten on the season with 5-0 win at David Douglas

The Central Catholic boys soccer team wrapped up the Mount Hood Conference title Tuesday afternoon with a commanding 5-0 win at David Douglas.

The Scots put pressure in the Rams’ end of the field over the first 10 minutes, but several near misses left the game scoreless.

It wouldn’t stay that way for long.

In the game’s 17th minute, Rams’ midfielder Peter Bergmann chased a loose ball into the box, beat two defenders and found an open area on the right side. He was left with a dead-center shot on an open net after the Douglas goalie came off the line to play the ball only to be caught in nowhere land 10 yards out.

“I knew David Douglas would come out and give us a go, but it comes down to putting away chances,” Central coach Jimmy Weber said. “We got those early goals, and that made a huge difference.”

The Rams put up two more goals before the end of the half and tacked on two more in the second half for the lopsided victory that moves Central to 7-0-0, clinching first place with three matches left in the regular season.

“I told the kids to treat this as a playoff game,” Weber said. “This was for the conference championship tonight.”
