Scots advance to face another Metro foe, No. 3-ranked Jesuit, in Tuesdays second round.

by: THE OUTLOOK: DAVID BALL - David Douglas forward Orlando Garcia makes a run through the Southridge defense during the first half of Saturdays 1-0 playoff win.

David Douglas forward Orlando Garcia didn’t put a ball into the net Saturday, but he did play a key role in the Scots’ 1-0 playoff win over Southridge.

Garcia nearly put Douglas in front five minutes into the game when he raced past the last defender and positioned himself in front of a high-bouncer 10 yards out. He swiped the ball out of mid-air with a big swing of his cleat, beating the keeper only to hear the shot ding the side post.

Midway through the first half Victor Sanchez played a ball ahead, and Garcia chased it into the 18-yard box only to have his legs taken out from behind. The foul resulted in a penalty kick, which teammate Carlos Bravo buried in the top right corner for the day’s only goal.

David Douglas found the net again in the second half, but had it taken off the scoreboard when a foul was called.

Southridge also had a goal taken away on an offsides call with about 15 minutes to play.

David Douglas advances to face Metro champion and No. 3-ranked Jesuit in Tuesday’s second round.

“Initially our goal was to get to the playoffs, but now we’re in a new season and the boys are still hungry,” Scots coach Logan Marquardt said. “Jesuit is going to be a real test, but we’re not going to back down.”

In other MHC boys games, Tualatin knocked off Centennial 3-1 on Friday and Central Catholic shutout Canby 4-0 on Saturday.

In the girls bracket, Central Catholic was the only MHC team to advance with a 1-0 win over Sheldon.

Gresham suffered a 1-0 loss at South Eugene, while Barlow went down 2-1 against overall No. 1 seed Grant and Canby ousted St. Mary's 5-0.
