The Royals see their summer season end with a loss to Jesuit

OREGON CITY — The Barlow Royals faced a long journey through the elimination bracket, needing six straight wins to gain a berth in this weekend’s OIBA summer championship game. Barlow took that first step Wednesday morning overcoming an early deficit to claim a 10-3 win over Tualatin.

The Royals moved into the lead in the fifth inning when Alex Richards cleared the bases with a triple that bounced to the fence. He came home on a wild pitch moments later to put Barlow up 5-2.

The team put the game out of reach with a five-run tally in the seventh inning — four of those runs coming across on wild pitches.

Barlow dropped out of the tournament with a 2-1 loss to Jesuit on Thursday and suffered another narrow 4-3 loss to McMinnville in its opening game.

Look for extended tournament coverage in the Friday, July 26, print edition.
