MHC BOYS HOOPS - Central Catholic is favored to repeat in a talent-heavy conference
by: David Ball David Douglas senior Jeremiah Baker calls for the ball during the team’s showdown with #1 Jesuit early this season — the Scots have faces seven top-10 foes so far.

It's been more than a decade since the Mount Hood Conference has sent multiple teams to the big-school state tournament, but that draught could be ending this winter as the league has three talented teams that have spent most of the early season ranked among the top-10 in the 6A RPI.

Central Catholic (12-3) leads that group, ranked #2 this week, coming off an impressive 12-point win over #1 Jesuit. Two of the team's three losses came during the elite Les Schwab holiday tournament.

David Douglas (8-6) brings a senior-heavy lineup to the court this season with early-season upsets over Lincoln and Westview under its belt, while Barlow (10-4) has held its own against a tough nonleague schedule highlighted by winning the Barlow Trail Classic holiday tournament for a second straight year.

• David Douglas coach Chad Reeves wanted to test his team early this season to see how his veteran rosters would handle adversity. So far the Scots seem to be passing the test with flying colors. Douglas has taken on seven top-10 teams this season, not to mention a game against the nation's #1 Oak Hill at the Les Schwab tourney.
