VALLEY 10 HOOPS - Comeback falls a few baskets short vs. City Christian

PORTLAND - The Portland Lutheran girls basketball team had a chance to punch its ticket to the Valley 10 playoffs Friday night, but couldn't put the finishing touches on a potential comeback during a 36-31 loss at City Christian.

The Blue Jays trailed by 11 at halftime, but quickly made a dent in the margin when Danica Roady and Lindsay LeBrun put the ball on the court for long drives to the basket that resulted in back-to-back layins. Portland Lutheran amped up the pressure when Gabi Rush pulled down an offensive rebound and kicked it out to Morgan Grubb for a 3 that sliced City's lead to 27-25 late in the third quarter.

Lutheran used a trapping defense to force repeated turnovers early in the fourth quarter, but the team failed to convert a series of fastbreak chances that would have given it the lead.

City won the boys game 54-48. Look for the full story on the girls game in the Feb. 11, edition of The Outlook.
