PORTLAND - A hail storm covered in ice pellets before the game and the effects seemed to linger for an Open Door squad that suffered a cold shooting night in a 37-24 loss to SW Christian in the opening round of the Valley 10 girls basketball playoffs Tuesday night.

The Huskies saw their slim first-quarter lead disappear after they managed just one basket during a long 12-minute stretch in the middle of the game.

Southwest took advantage, going into halftime ahead 19-12 after Rachel Hills swished a 3-pointer at the first-half horn. The Wildcats lead grew to double digits early in the third quarter, sparked by Hills who dropped to the floor to get a loose ball before passing from her knees and finding teammate Caroline Smith for a layin.

The tournament continues Thursday with the semifinals beginning at 3 p.m., at Multnomah University.
