A comeback in the second set powers Barlow to the first-round victory

Barlow scored a hard-fought 25-23, 25-22, 25-20 sweep over South Eugene in the opening round of the 6A volleyball playoffs Wednesday night.

The Bruins overcame a 19-14 deficit in the late stages of the second set, pulling even on a dump shot by setter Kaylee Ree, who then stepped to the service line and pounded out three straight points to claim the middle game.

The lead changed hands five times in the second set.

South Eugene came out flat in the third, and Barlow sprinted in front 9-3 and would maintain a comfortable lead to the finish.

Barlow (13-9) advances to face a familiar foe in Saturday’s second round when it travels to No. 1 Central Catholic (26-2).
