David Douglas kept its season alive with an 8-5 comeback win over Sunset in a 6A softball qualifier game last Thursday.

After falling behind 3-0, the Scots came to life in their second time through the lineup.

David Douglas put their first five batters on base, sparked at the bottom of the order when Chloe Matthews drew a lead-off walk, stole second and put the Scots' first run on the scoreboard after a Sunset throwing error. Kailey Ritchardson sent a single into the grass, and Jennifer Olivia-Lopez bounced a double into the center-field fence — both scoring runs — to tie the game 3-3 before registering an out in the inning.

The Apollos nearly escaped without any more damage when shortstop Abby Wingo caught a pop up at the edge of the infield and threw a runner out at the plate.

The Scots' Bailey Haines was next into the batter's box and put a ball in play down the third-base line. A high throw across the infield prevented Sunset from getting out of the inning, and allowed Olivia-Lopez to come across with the go-ahead run.

The Scots expanded their lead to 7-3 with a three-run scoring spree in the fifth inning.

David Douglas (11-15) travels to take on No. 3 seed North Medford in a first-round game at 5 p.m. Monday.
