South Salem ... 4 innings

Centennial's softball team created an avalanche in the fourth inning to bury South Salem on the mercy rule 17-6 to start the ages 8-10 state tournament last Thursday in Medford.

The Eagles found themselves locked into a 5-5 tie after three innings, but their next at-bats would secure the lopsided victory and lead to a post-game pool party at the team hotel.

Lily Ibabao and Kati Jensen sent long hits into the outfield grass to highlight the 12-run scoring spree.

"We have a good mix of speed and power, which creates some good offense for us," Centennial coach Josh Grover said.

The Eagles maintained their double-digit lead after limiting South Salem to a single run in the bottom of the fourth inning to end the game early on the mercy rule.

Centennial dropped a 17-0 game to Klamath Falls in Friday's second round.
