Bruins extend match before falling to Central Catholic in four
Mount Hood Conference
PORTLAND — The Mount Hood Conference season started with a blockbuster — a rematch of last year's 6A quarterfinals — when Barlow traveled to reigning state champion Central Catholic on Tuesday night.
The Rams appeared on their way to a quick victory after taking the first two sets and going up 18-10 in the third. That's when Barlow showed signs of life, winning 15 of the next 18 points to extend the match.
Megan Ward hit an ace to bring the Bruins to set point.
Another big serve from Ward forced Central to put up an attack from the 10-foot line, allowing the Bruins to be aggressive on their end. Megan Sester came through with a big swing that hit the floor between a pair of diving Rams in the back row.
Central regained its rhythm in the fourth set, getting out to a 15-8 lead after the first rotation cycle powered by a four-point service run by rookie Kealani Rosa.
Kiora Ridgeway and Mia Jordan took turns pounding kills through the middle to grow the Rams lead to double digits late in the match.
