CORBETT — The Corbett boys soccer team put up plenty of fight, but couldn't crash the goal during a 3-0 loss to Tri-Valley contender Gladstone last Thursday.

The Gladiators took charge with two goals in the first 17 minutes, capped by Josiah Bitter's penalty kick low into the right side of the goal.

The Cardinals applied constant pressure on the Gladstone goal during a two-minute stretch late in the first half, but were unable to put one into the net.

Corbett striker Kohl Cutler had the best opportunity when he squeezed between a pair of defenders while chasing a through ball into the 18-yard box only to have Gladstone's Derek Johnson tap it out of danger toward the sideline.

The flurry ended with Corbett's Grant Embree playing a corner kick to the front of the goal that forced Gladstone keeper Andrew Prom to make a save.

Corbett (3-5-1) returns to action at 4 p.m. Tuesday with a road trip to Crook County.
