HILLSBORO — The Centennial boys basketball team came into Thursday's game without a win on its record — three of those losses coming by a single bucket.

Against Aloha it wasn't close.

The Eagles started quick and never looked back to dispatch the Warriors 60-36 for its first win of the season at the Hillsboro holiday tournament.

Jalen Calvert got things started with a 3-pointer from the right side and Sonam Phuntsok followed with an old-fashioned three-point play after absorbing a shove on the hip that turned his shot into a fadeaway from the elbow.

The Eagles kept it rolling when Eli Porterfield swiped a steal near mid-court and sent a pass ahead to Jimmie Barton, who beat two defenders to the rim for a 20-5 lead early in the second quarter.

Centennial opens the Mount Hood Conference season at Oregon City at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5.
