A 29-year-old Woodburn man has been charged with killing a 56-year-old Hillsboro woman whose body has not yet been found.

A Washington County grand jury indicted Eloy Vasquez-Santiago on one count of murder in the death of Maria Bolanos-Rivera based in part on statements he made to investigators, according to Lt. Mike Rouches, Hillsboro police spokesman.

“We believe that he killed her on or about Aug. 26, but we don’t yet know where yet,” says Rouches.

Vasquez-Santiago was arraigned Tuesday and pleaded not guilty. The case will be assigned to a judge on Monday.

According to Rouches, Vasquez-Santiago was acquainted with Bolanos-Rivera, whose family reported her missing after Aug. 26. Rouches says Vasquez-Santiago traveled to Mexico around that time, but returned to the border on Sept. 29 and turned himself in.

Vasquez-Santiago was then lodged in he San Diego Jail until the case could be presented to the grand jury.

Rouches says Vasquez-Santiago waived extradition and was lodged in the Washington County Jail on Monday.

“A lot of details have yet to be filled in,” Rouches says.
