Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff's Office responded to an Aug. 7 crash in which a vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a residential front yard.

The driver, Jessica McFarland, 34, of Hillsboro, was alone in the vehicle and did not survive her injuries.

The emergency call came at 1:10 a.m., and deputies responded to N.W. West Union Road, west of N.W. Neakahnie Avenue in the community of Rock Creek.

Deputies discovered a 2004 GMC Envoy upside down in the front yard of 20160 N.W. West Union Road. Deputies determined that the vehicle had been westbound when it failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The vehicle crossed the oncoming lane and traveled about 300 feet — including 44 feet airborne — before coming to rest in the yard.

Deputies found McFarland deceased at the scene.

The Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team responded to assist in the investigation. West Union Road was closed until about 4:30 a.m. to gather evidence and document the accident scene.

Investigators determined that speed is likely a contributing factor in this crash. The investigation is ongoing.
