The Holland Partner group will break ground next week on its latest project in Orenco Station, the central and east podiums in the Platform District near the MAX station.

Each building is six stories tall. When completed, they will consist of 379 apartments and 20,000 square feet of retail space. The first retail tenant is Ava Roasteria, and several restaurants are expected to be signed in the future.

The project will also include a new one-acre public plaza adjacent to the center approved by the city of Hillsboro. It will include the preservation of two 200-year-old oak trees, a water feature, a canopy and seating.

A third Podium building is also planned in the area. It will consist of 225 apartments and a TriMet “park & ride” lot on the ground floor. Groundbreaking is expected in summer 2014, with completion scheduled for early 2016.

The entire Platform District development is expected to cost over $120 million.

Holland recently completed the nearby Platform 14 apartment building at 1030 Orenco Station Parkway. It features 177 apartments and a number of retailers.

The Tessera apartment complex at 6523 N.E. Cherry Drive is also currently under construction. It consists of 304 units and more than 7,000 square feet of retail space.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, adjacent to 1030 N.E. Orenco Station Parkway.
