Henry Hagg Lake near Gaston is now open for the season, and in the future will no longer close for the winter.

The cold season brought some improvements to the lake, including new grass, beach access and a playground near Boat Ramp C. There are also plans to add 80 overnight campground sites near Boat Ramp A within the next year.

Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies are reminding lake-goers of a few safety precautions:

  • All children younger than 13 years old must wear a life jacket when on a boat. There must also be a life jacket for each adult on board.

Fines for not being properly equipped with life jackets are $260. Inexperience, drinking and exhaustion have been common causes for past drownings in Hagg Lake.

  • Fishing licenses are required and cost about $33. The fine for fishing without a license is $110.

Fines for this unclassified misdemeanor charge, if left unpaid, result in a mandatory arrest warrant. Hagg Lake has been stocked by the Oregon Fish & Wildlife Department.

  • Hull inspections are necessary for the boat registration process.

Inspections are free. Flag down a deputy at the lake or call 503-629-0111 and a deputy will come to you.

  • Boat Ramp A is temporarily closed because the dock has broken loose.
