It's not just 'game night' at Hillsboro senior center
The name of the game is bingo — and in Hillsboro, it's more than just a fun night out. In fact, it raises money for the whole community.
The Friends of the Hillsboro Community Senior Center's primary fundraiser, Wednesday night bingo, has been raising money for the senior center for years.
"We have operated in the background raising money to augment programs at the center like the hot meals, nutrition, wellness and activities offerings," Friends of the Hillsboro Community Senior Center board member David Woodford said. "We have donated in excess of $220,000 to the city in the past five years, without any fanfare or bravado."
The games are held at Hillsboro Community Senior Center, 750 S.E. Eighth Ave., with doors opening at 5 p.m. each Wednesday. Games begin at 5:30 p.m.
All ages are welcome, although participants younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Bingo is a regular fundraiser for the nonprofit Friends of the Hillsboro Community Senior Center, but it's not the only one. The group also sells snacks at the Concerts in the Park summer series, provides management and sellers for the souvenir booths at the annual Hillsboro Air Show, and runs the Eighth Avenue Gifts store at the Hillsboro Community Senior Center.
