Hillsboro police shoot burglary suspect
Authorities are investigating after Hillsboro police officers shot a burglary suspect on Wednesday morning.
According to Eric Bunday, a spokesman with the Hillsboro Police Department, officers were called to the 2100 block of Northeast Montgomery Street, near the Hillsboro Airport, at about 7:40 a.m., May 2.
When officers arrived, Bunday said, they encountered the suspect in a house. Bunday said the suspect, a man, atacked the two officers, attempting to stab one with a sharp handheld tool, similar to a pick.
The other officer opened fire, shooting the man.
The suspect was injured and brought to a nearby hospital for treatment. No information about the suspect has been released, including his name or his medical condition.
Neither officer was harmed, Bunday said.
Neighbor Camron Sticka told Pamplin Media Group news partner KOIN 6 News that he thought the house was being renovated and no one was living there at the time of the shooting.
The investigation is ongoing.
Officers are waiting for a search warrant to go into the home.
Bunday said the two officers were placed on paid administrative leave pending investigation into the incident.
The names of the officers and suspect are not being released at this time.
The investigation is being conducted by the Washington County Major Crimes Team.
