Bouncers of Hillsboro rejoice.

Big Bounce America, a cross-country tour of the world's largest bounce house, will be in Hillsboro next weekend, the last of Oregon dates in a cross-country tour.

The 10,000-square-foot bounce house — which features inflatable basketball hoops, slides, a DJ booth, and more — stopped by Hillsboro last year, and co-founder Cameron Craig said they knew they needed to return to Washington County.

"Last year in (Hillsboro) was an amazing success," Craig said. "It sold out in record time, so obviously we had to bring the new and enhanced (version) back. So we are doing two weekends instead of one which is fantastic. It's pretty exciting."STAFF PHOTO: OLIVIA SINGER - To add to the inflatable fun, one local participant arrived in their dinosaur suit, bouncing with the crowd.

This year, the bounce house is even larger, adding an additional 10,000 square feet of inflatable obstacle courses, giant ball pits and slides to the already impressive spectacle.

This year's event has moved to AmberGlen Park, 1577 N.W. Compton Drive.

"We went to the Bounce America last year and (the kids) loved it," said Hillsboro resident Erin Forrester, who attended the event with her family. "It's just a really fun thing to do right before they go back to school, just kind of book end summer with a really fun activity. They love this thing. It's better than sugar, right?"STAFF PHOTO: OLIVIA SINGER - Kids danced and reached in the air as the confetti fell over them in the middle of Saturday's bounce session.

Harvey Czichas of Vancouver, Wash. brought his kids to the big event for the first time this year after hearing about it on Facebook.

"I thought it (sounded) great because I take them to things like this all the time," Czichas said. "(It was) bigger and larger than life. It was great."

Building the world's largest bounce house was conceived while Craig and other organizers were working at a music festival in the United Kingdom.

"The music festival had a children/family section and one area had a normal stand-up sized bounce house," Craig said. "Me and my colleagues — my two friends — had had a couple of beers and at night time when the kids all went to bed, we snuck in and had some fun in the little bounce house."STAFF PHOTO: OLIVIA SINGER - The bounce house, which holds the title from Guinness World Records as the world's largest, is open to people of all ages.

That gave them an idea, he said.

"Why don't we develop that idea and maybe make (a bounce house) that's big enough for mom and dad and the kids to play on at the same time?' Craig said. "One thing led to another and we decided, 'Never mind that, let's make the biggest one in the world. Let's throw a DJ booth in the middle so there can be music, let's add some obstacle courses inside, let's have some basketball hoops and ball pits."'

Tickets vary from $12 to $23 depending on age. Remaining dates of the event are Aug. 31, Sept. 1 and Sept. 2.STAFF PHOTO: OLIVIA SINGER - This weekend is the final weekend for the Hillsboro stop on the cross-country Bounce America tour.
