Corey Allen Bock is scheduled to be sentenced next month after he attempted to shoot a Cornelius man

BockA Hillsboro man has been found guilty on all charges for the attempted murder of a Cornelius man outside a home last year.

On Thursday, Sept. 20, a Washington County jury found Corey Allen Bock guilty of three counts of attempted aggravated murder with a firearm, as well as attempted murder, first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, being a felon in possession of a firearm and interfering with a peace officer.

His sentencing is set for Oct. 17.

Washington County Sheriff's deputies were called to the 200-block of South 13th Avenue, in Cornelius at about 10:45 p.m., May 27, 2017, after receiving reports of gunshots in the area.

According to investigators, a man and his child were confronted by Bock and another man, Jose Onofre-Nana as they were returning home. Prosecutors said Bock assaulted the man and fired a handgun several times during the altercation.

During the incident, a housemate came to help the victim and was also assaulted. During the fight, one of the victims fired a handgun in self-defense, which struck Bock in his foot, according to investigators. Bock and Onofre-Nana fled the scene, but were arrested a short time later.

Onofre-Nana pleaded guilty to first-degree assault last year.

Bock's case initially went to trial in November 2017, but it ended in mistrial after only four days, when Bock's defense attorney said he needed more time to prepare his client's case.

Bock's attorney, Brian Schmonsees, told the Tribune last year that new evidence had come to light halfway through the trial. He requested the case be held over so he could thoroughly investigate it.

Schmonsees was removed from the case and a new trial was set for this month.

Bock has a criminal history dating back a decade. In 2008 Bock, then 17, was sentenced to 8 years in prison after police said he attacked and robbed three people in three separate altercations on the same evening.
