Philharmonic looks for more musicians

The Pacific University Philharmonic is recruiting members. Their first tenth-season rehearsal is Wednesday, Aug. 27. Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 7 to 10 p.m. Community members can participate for free. There is a particular need for those who play the violin, viola, double bass, oboe and English horn, bassoon and French horn. Concert series tickets now available

The Walters Cultural Arts Center 2014-15 concert series tickets go on sale this Friday, Aug. 8. George Winston and his signature piano style is part of the concert series, which will be announced in its entirety Friday. Tickets can be purchased at or by calling 503-615-3485.

Plein Air Plus coming to Hillsboro

Registration is now open for Hillsboro Plein Air Plus, the annual outdoor art competition hosted by the Hillsboro Arts & Culture Council. The competition takes place Sept. 12 and 13 and this year’s event seeks to expand the perspective of artwork with a broader range of media and styles.

There will be an artists’ luncheon and demo sponsored by Gamblin Artists Colors; two figurative “tableaux vivant” opportunities; public art demonstrations at the Hillsboro Farmers’ Market; reception with music, refreshments and people’s choice voting; gallery exhibit of the works created during Plein Air Plus; and cash prizes.

RACC grant cycle now open

Every summer, the Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC) invites schools, nonprofit organizations and individual artists to submit proposals for project grants. These grants support a wide range of artistic activities in the Portland metropolitan area, including performances and exhibits, community-based cultural events, and arts education experiences. 

About $750,000 is available for activities that are planned for January through December 2015. Guidelines and “Intent to Apply” forms are now available at
