Hillsboro Community Youth Choir readies for concert with new director
Hillsboro Community Youth Choir will perform its winter concert Dec. 8 with the debut of new director, Benjamin Noyes.
Noyes — who is also the choir director at Hillsboro High and South Meadow Middle School — took the reins in September and said he's happy to be helping build youth choral music programs in his hometown.
Born in raised in Hillsboro (he attended Hillsboro High), Noyes holds a bachelor's degree in vocal music education and a master's of education from Portland State University.
Founded in 2005 by Sharon Ziel, a retired music teacher, HCYC has grown from one choir for children in fourth- through eighth-grade to three choirs for youth ranging in age from Kindergarten through high school.
Noyes and his singers have plenty of holiday music on tap for the concert, plus a few surprises.
The concert begins at 7 p.m., at Hillsboro High School auditorium. Tickets are $5 for adults, seniors and high school students; they're free for children and middle school students.
