The 2013 NW Natural Street of Dreams — held July and August at Stonehenge in West Linn — celebrated its 38th consecutive year this summer with high traffic and positive engagement by attendees and supporters.

Organizers at the Home Builders Association of Metro Portland credit the show’s success to a “wonderful site with nine outstanding homes, innovative building and interior designs, along with improvements in the housing market.”

“We were very proud of this year’s show and the hundreds of home builders, designers, landscapers, subcontractors, suppliers and others who helped bring it to fruition,” said Dave Nielsen, HBAMP CEO. “It’s so rewarding to see a show that inspires and entertains while also showing the impact our industry has on providing jobs, building better homes and giving back to the community by helping build shelter for those without a home.”

Attendance was up 40 percent over 2012, marking the highest attendance for the show in six years.

More than $12,500 was raised for the Home Builders Foundation from the opening Block Party and individual ticket sale donations. These funds will be used to support renovation of the Goose Hollow Family Shelter, a nightly shelter providing temporary housing for eight homeless families.

The construction of the show homes created more than $1.5 million in wages paid to local workers and more than half a million in local taxes paid, supported hundreds of jobs and created the equivalent of 30 full time jobs for a year.

All of the homes had Energy Performance Scores that exceeded code and several will have monthly utility bills that will be less than older homes half their size.

Organizers also said that sponsorships, concessions and advertising were also up significantly this year, showing an improved housing industry and growing consumer confidence in the economy.

The 2014 Street of Dreams will take place in Northern Heights in Happy Valley. Plans are already underway and details will be announced this fall.
