New GIS tool will identify the best sites for development

Clackamas County’s Business and Economic Development Department has developed a Site Search mapping tool that will identify vacant and commercial sites with a few keystrokes.

It was announced to the public on Thursday, Aug. 1.

According to county Public Affairs Coordinator Tim Heider, the site was developed following an inventory of vacant and under-utilized employment land in Clackamas County. In addition, local property owners and brokers were asked to assess their interest in marketing their properties. Most of the vacant industrial and commercial sites inventoried are now online with detailed site and GIS information.

The county’s Planning and Technology Services departments also assisted with the development of Site Search.

“This easy-to-use tool was created to provide businesses and developers access to Clackamas County locations,” said Catherine Comer, manager of the Business and Economic Development Department.

Searches can be done by property location, size, type and proximity to key services. Each search displays a map showing topography, environmental overlays, transportation, incentives and more.

“The project team developed this hands-on tool with ease of use in mind but wanted to allow users the ability to view detailed property reports and site information,” said project manager Jamie Johnk.
