August will be full of fun and interesting events

Presto the Magician to perform at LO library

Presto the Magician, also known as Kevin Witt, loves to entertain and share his love of children’s literature. His shows include plenty of humor interspersed with the “wow” effect of his magic tricks. He will perform at the Lake Oswego library at 3 p.m. Aug. 1.

First Tuesday features French Troubadour

Eric John Kaiser, formerly a resident of Paris and now of Portland, will perform at the Lake Oswego library’s First Tuesday music series from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 7. Kaiser, also known as the French Troubadour, plays modern pop-rock wrapped in sophisticated French lyrics. The program is free, courtesy of the Friends of the Library.

Nocturnal Wonderland puppet show to be held

Mark your calendar for 3 p.m. Aug. 8 and join Batunia the bat on a musical tour to meet the creatures who come alive under the nigh sky. The puppet show includes songs and special effects. Penny’s Puppet Productions performs. The event is free and open to the public.

Local travel author to speak

Local author Chantal Kelly will speak about her book, “Gelato Sisterhood on the Amalfi Shore,” at 7 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Lake Oswego library. Fluent in five languages, Kelly worked in the Italian travel industry before she formed her own agency guiding small groups throughout Europe. Part travelogue and part historical review, “Gelato Sisterhood on the Amalfi Shore” is informative and practical, filled with Kelly’s personal stories and recipes.

Attendees will get a sneak peek at the library’s new selection of travel books.

Refreshments will be served courtesy of the Friends of the Library.

College essay workshop slated for Aug. 9

High school students wanting to learn the essential elements of a good college application essay should attend the free workshop planned for 2 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Lake Oswego Public Library.

Tim Cantrick, an independent college counselor, uses a variety of examples from real college applications to illustrate positive and negative features. Tips on how to get started and stay on track to successful completion are also included. Sign up by calling 503-697-6580.
