The band will open its 2012 season with a concert and silent auction Dec. 2 at Lakeridge High School. The Lake Oswego Millennium Concert Band will hold its first concert of the 2012-13 season on Dec. 2 in the Lakeridge High School auditorium.

Admission is free and all are welcome to attend. The event begins with a silent auction at 6 p.m., which will generate funds for the band’s trip to San Ramon, Calif., next spring.

“Our first concert of the new season will offer a variety of wonderful music, including a couple of new tunes that are exciting, entertaining and just plain good listening,” said Dale Cleland, artistic director of the band. The program includes marches, a collection of Frank Sinatra tunes and a classic medley from the “Harry Potter” films. Featured soloist will be a new band member, Jeff Binns, performing the “Carnival of Venice” on the euphonium.

The Millennium Concert Band was recently selected to be one of seven guest bands to perform at the national convention of the Association of Concert Bands, to be held April 3 through 7 in San Ramon.

“Moving 72 musicians and their instruments to San Ramon is an expensive endeavor, and we are asking for financial help from as many people, businesses, service clubs and other organizations that are in a position to donate funds to help offset the roughly $28,000 that will be needed to make this happen,” said Cleland. “Since we are completely funded by donations to run our band from year to year, we hope that donations for this event will be above and beyond any donations that keep our band playing and performing for our usual concerts.”
