by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - Mythologist Michael Meade will present two programs this weekend.Mythologist Michael Meade will present an evening program on May 17 at First Unitarian Church in Portland and a daylong workshop on May 18 at Marylhurst University. Both events are produced by Mosaic Multicultural Foundation, an organization that brings myth, story, art and imagination into the center of modern life through community events, specialized healing retreats, literary publications and online curriculum.

“Because each soul is unique in some way, each person’s path through life takes on a unique shape,” said Rachel M. Fiala, acting director of Mosaic Multicultural Foundation. “We may follow a particular practice or system of belief, but one day must step off the given path in order to learn where our inner spirit would have us go and how our soul would have us contribute to the continuance of the world.”

During Friday evening’s program, "The Pathless Path," Meade will share myths, stories, poems and lead discussion. He combines storytelling with a knowledge of cross-cultural ritual.

The Saturday workshop, "Initiated Soul, Awakened Self," will benefit those doing creative work, community building, therapy, mentoring, teaching, healing, spiritual development, ecological and social activism.

“In this event we will separate the self’s vital story and creative calling for the corpse of the past,” said Fiala. “We will consider ‘unfinished initiations’ of the sacred path of knowledge and love hidden within our lives. We either learn to live the mythic pattern of fate and destiny woven within us or our lives become an unconscious and distorted version of it.”

Tickets to the Friday event are $12; the Saturday workshop fee is $95. Both can be purchased online at or by calling 206-935-3665. Proceeds from both events support projects for at-risk youth, veterans and communities under stress.
