by: CLIFF NEWELL The Foundry celebrated its big first year last week. Welcoming the guests were Kindi Lantz and Mandy McLeod of Gourmet Productions, one of the businesses greatly helped by The Foundry coming to Lake Oswego.

The Foundry at Oswego Pointe has turned out to be a case of being the right business in the right place at the right time.

Opening just a year ago on Oswego Point Drive, The Foundry has proven to be one of the most beautiful and innovative wedding spots in Oregon, plus a place where more and more corporations like to celebrate.

In addition, The Foundry has created an economic wave that has lifted a number of local businesses.

'I think we've been a smashing success, and we've worked very hard to achieve it,' said Debbie Martin, general manager for The Foundry. 'We've hosted over 40 events and two-thirds of them were weddings.

'There was a real need for this kind of venue in Lake Oswego.'

This has come as terrific news to Foundry owner Dr. Noel Peterson. When he first bought the building, formerly the site of The Ram Restaurant, he envisioned transforming it into office buildings. That is until he met Mary Lou Burton of Bravo Productions, who convinced him to build a special event center.

Peterson built it and people have come.

'It's been wonderful,' Peterson said. 'I feel we've been supported and embraced by the community.'

A tour of The Foundry shows why it has achieved success so quickly, including being named Best New Wedding Venue by Oregon Bride Magazine. Indoors it is beautiful and outdoors it is even better, since the Willamette River runs right by.

Martin has no boundaries for her creativity. A water ski show for a wedding? Why not?

'What we've heard on the street is all extremely positive,' Martin said. 'We're always hearing about brides saying, 'I would love to come to Lake Oswego!''

That comes as good news to other businesses in Lake Oswego. While forging its own successful place in the community, The Foundry has also created opportunities for other local businesses.

'The Foundry has been really, really great to work with,' said Kindi Lantz, catering manager for Gourmet Productions. 'Debbie and Alicia (Davis) really know what they're doing.

'We've done some events for Bravo Productions and people come up and say, 'You're one of the vendors at The Foundry!' There's been a lot of excitement.'

'Every wedding booked here also wants hotels, florists, catering and Anna's Bridal,' Peterson said.

Could a bride want anything more? Well, there is Peterson's own highly successful naturopathic medical practice.

'We can get brides healthy inside and out for their weddings,' Peterson said.

Peterson has been grateful ever since the day he was collared by Burton. Now he is renting his building every week instead of having office space that stands empty.

'I think we've created a magic vibe here,' Martin said.
