The board of directors of the Friends of the Lake Oswego Library has approved grants totaling $25,000 that will be donated to the library. The grants will benefit the following programs:

  • First Tuesday Music Series, $5,000. This popular program brings performers for a variety of musical entertainment.
  • Performing Arts Series, $3,500. This program features dance, music, literary and dramatic presentations.
  • Third Tuesday Author Program, $1,000. Local authors provide discussion and idea exchanges for community interaction.
  • Reference update, $2,650. This grant will update and upgrade the collection of reference books for information not found on the Internet.
  • Makerspace, $3,000. There is a growing trend among libraries to create “makerspaces,” places where tools and supplies can be used, or checked out, to make jewelry, to paint or draw, enabling people to realize their creative selves. This grant will fund the purchase of a 3D printer to aid users in visualizing their creations.
  • LO Reads William Stafford, $8,000. This grant funds the purchase of 800 copies of the collection of poetry by William Stafford selected for the eighth annual LO Reads program.
  • Author presentation for LO Reads, $1,000. Kim Stafford, Stafford’s son and a distinguished poet, musician and essayist, will be the featured guest speaker during the annual LO Reads program.
  • Cultural Pass Program, $850. This grant purchases cultural passes, which allow Lake Oswego library patrons to visit the Chinese, Japanese and rhododendron gardens, the Pittock Mansion, Children’s Museum and the Portland Art Museum free of charge.
