A 44-year-old Lake Oswego man was found dead Tuesday afternoon near Rowena Crest Viewpoint in the Columbia River Gorge, according to Oregon State Police.

The body of Scott Anthony Reeves, 44, was found about 60 feet down a cliff from his parked car following a several-hour search, which was initiated after the vehicle was spotted on the shoulder of the viewpoint on Highway 30. The area isn’t known as a destination for overnight hikes, but the car had been there since Monday, according to OSP.

A police trooper contacted family members, who reportedly expressed concern about Reeves’ welfare. OSP then contacted the Wasco County Sheriff's Office, which initiated a search of the area. The pilot of a Hood River County Sheriff’s Office plane spotted Reeves’ body, which was then retrieved by search and rescue personnel.

A preliminary investigation indicated he had intentionally fallen to his death, according to state police.
