Chuck O’Leary resigned as executive director of the Lake Oswego Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday.

In his letter to the chamber’s board of directors, O’Leary cited personal business concerns as the reason for his resignation.

O’Leary took over the chamber’s top job in July of 2012.

His move was accepted with regret by the chamber directors.

“Chuck stepped in when Jerry Wheeler left, and he really worked hard to improve our finances,” said Doug Cushing, chamber president. “We appreciate what he has done and are sorry to see him go.”

Cushing said that O’Leary, an active chamber member for 15 years, was instrumental in improving the organization’s financial situation and helped to boost its membership.

A retreat for the board of directors is planned in January, and the search for O’Leary’s successor will be the top item of business.

Cushing said, “That will be our key point. We’ll talk about what we’ll be looking for in our next executive director and setting up our timeline for the search.”
