The following is an open letter to the Lake Oswego School District community:Kevin Robertson

I am running for Position 2 on the Lake Oswego School Board and I would like your support and your vote.

I filed for the position because I want to continue to support excellent education here in the community I love during a time when we have very difficult decisions to make in an environment of limited resources.

Why me and why now?

My track record demonstrates experience and a consistent voice for all students. I believe we have the best schools in the country and I want to keep them that way, in spite of the challenges. Now is the time when I can be most effective on the school board.

I strongly believe that our school board should work for all students in all grades. There are no sides.

I have experience at all levels of our schools. Between our two children, I have nine years of grade school experience, four years at the junior high level and three years of high school involvement with children in ninth and 11th grades.

I do not have a special interest agenda. I have no ties to special interests or groups.

I have worked for more than six years on the Lake Oswego School District Foundation Board, three years serving as vice president, last year as president.

I was instrumental in developing the LOSDF Endowment Fund — a permanent solution to school funding.

I am well aware of the many topics and issues facing the school district, community and school board.

I am a man of character always trying to do what is right.

I am a fact-based strategic decision maker working for all students.

I am a practical decision maker who is easy to work with, who listens and shares ideas.

I approach this job with an open mind knowing that we must maintain our great schools with a combination of stewardship, collaboration and constructive change.

I have lived in our community for almost 30 years. We bought our house in Lake Oswego even before we had children because of its outstanding schools.

I have a finance background and experience in hiring great applicants.

I believe the heart of our community is in our great schools, they reflect our values and in turn generate superior property values.

Our family is involved. My wife, Pamela, was PTA president at Lake Grove Elementary, ran several auctions, put together Fun Nights, was PTA treasurer for several years and was a member of the School Advisory Committee (SAC). Pamela is now president of NCL Lake Oswego Chapter. We exchange ideas, facts, perspectives and thoughts about our schools to make better decisions and to be better informed.

I respectively ask for your support.

Kevin Robertson, Lake Oswego, is a candidate for Position 2 on the Lake Oswego School Board.
