Lake Oswego High School will hold a ceremony for the inaugural class of its Hall of Honor at the half of this Friday's home boys basketball game against Oregon City.

Lake Oswego will recognize five former graduates and one coach for their contributions to the Laker athletics program and beyond.

“It's something we've been kicking around for a while since we have such a strong athletic tradition at Lake Oswego,” LOHS principal Bruce Plato said.

The six inductees were selected by a committee of coaches, administrators and teachers at Lake Oswego High School and the school plans on inducting new members to the Hall of Honor annually.

“The size of the class each year may vary. There's so many people who deserve it,” Plato said.

The inaugural class includes former teacher and coach Boyd Crawford, who was with the school from 1962-1989, Neil Lomax, a 1977 graduate who went on to play quarterback professionally for the St. Louis Cardinals, Kevin Love a 2007 graduate, who won a state title for the boys basketball team and currently plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Don Schollander a 1964 graduate who won four Olympic gold medals in swimming, Mike Stutes a 2004 graduate who won a state championship winning pitcher for the baseball team, currently pitching professionally in the Philadelphia Phillies' organization and Katy Steding, a 1986 graduate and former women's basketball player who won a national title with Stanford and is currently coaching with the University of California.

Crawford, Lomax and Schollander will be in attendance at the event while the other member will be represented by their families.

Each member will have a plaque and his or her picture mounted in the Hall of Honor outside the gym at Lake Oswego High School.

A reception will also be held for the inductees in the library following the ceremony.

“We're trying to make it a big deal. There's been a buzz around the school and I think the kids are excited about it,” Plato said.

Lake Oswego will continue to add members to its Hall of Honor and may accept nominations in the future as well.

The boys basketball game is scheduled to begin at 7:45 p.m. this Friday, Feb. 15.
