After a 1-3 showing at the Shootout, the Lakers top North Salem

by: MATTHEW SHERMAN - Juliana Ramey had a game-high 27 points in her team's win against North Salem. She was also the team's leading scorer for the Interstate Shootout. The Lake Oswego girls basketball team kept its positive momentum going following a strong showing at the Nike Interstate Shootout with a convincing road win at North Salem 63-42.

The Lakers played terrific defense in the contest, particularly in the first half where they held North Salem to 17 points.

Lake Oswego was steady and consistent in the game and played well fundamentally to keep the Vikings at bay.

Despite being undersized, Lake Oswego did well on the boards and kept possessions alive with strong interior play.

Juliana Ramey was strong on both ends of the court. She was a force on the glass and proved to be a tough match-up for the Vikings, exploding for a game-high 27 points.

Morgan McKinney continued her strong play as well with an 11-point night.

In all, 10 different Lakers scored. Lake Oswego led 30-17 at the half and never let the Vikings crawl back into the game.

The win follows a 1-3 showing at the Shootout but one that proved to the young team that it can compete at a high level.

Lake Oswego was a late addition to the more competitive Swoosh Bracket when another team opted out and it proved to be a positive experience.

After a tough opening-round victory over West Albany, the Lakers were competitive with eventual runner-up Beaverton and then nearly completed a stunning comeback against top-10 ranked West Linn in consolation.

The Lakers also turned in a strong effort in a close game with Sheldon to wrap up the tournament. Ramey scored in double figures in all four games for the Lakers and has lived up to expectations now that she is fully healthy, emerging as one of the league's more dangerous players.

McKinney, who poured in 20 points against West Linn, also averaged double figures for the tournament.

Lake Oswego still has plenty of room for improvement but appears on its way to being a competitive factor in the TRL again.

Lake Oswego will take on South Albany and Sunset to wrap up the preseason before opening its league schedule against top-five ranked Clackamas.
