FRIDAY'S TOP FIVE

Barlow moves past Grant to pick up its third straight win

Barlow put points on the scoreboard before its offense even took the field during a 38-20 win at Grant to conclude the nonleague schedule Friday.

Two plays into the game, Bruins' cornerback Joe MacDonald picked off a sideline pass and returned it 25 yards to the end zone. Grant would answer with QB Sam Simril finding Marcus Harris on a deep sideline throw later in the quarter, and a missed extra point is all that would separate the teams for most of the first half.

The Bruins put the game away with three consecutive scoring drives that bridged halftime. It started with Jared Eggleston intercepting a pass, which led to a 29-yard field goal by Chase Hallenius going into the break. Senior running back Jobi Malary would break off a pair of touchdown runs to put Barlow in command 24-6 midway through the third quarter.

West Linn rallies to top Sherwood in 2OT thriller

Good, old-fashioned hard-nosed football.

Sherwood thrived on it for most of the contest.

But at the end, West Linn showed it could play some hard-nosed football of its own.

And the Lions got a thrilling, hard-fought win to show for it. West Linn, after rallying to tie the game in the fourth quarter, came away with a 26-20 double-overtime victory over the Bowmen in a non-league battle played Friday at Sherwood High School.

Scappoose runs past Lions, 49-25

The pace and power of the Scappoose Indians was too much for the dogged St. Helens Lions in their Friday football showdown at Scappoose.

The Lions scored on the first offensive play of the game — with safety Isaiah Bettencourt intercepting a pass and returning it 45 yards for a touchdown. And St. Helens got the only two touchdowns of the fourth quarter.

But in between, it was almost all Scappoose, which won, 49-25.

Reynolds doubles up Newberg to pick up its fourth win

Reynolds made its go-ahead march shortly before halftime and never looked back on its way to a 28-14 win over Newberg on Friday night.

The Raiders wrapped up the nonleague season with a 4-1 record, although each of those wins have come against teams in the bottom 10 of the OSAA rankings.

The Raiders start league play at David Douglas at 7 p.m. Friday.

Estacada wins thriller over Woodburn

Coming off a 20-point loss to Gladstone in the prior game, it was important for Estacada to have a bounce-back week against Woodburn.

That task would be easier said then done as Woodburn came into Friday's contest undefeated and averaging 35 points per game. The Rangers, however, were up to the challenge.

Estacada's defense held Woodburn scoreless for the first three quarters and made a game-winning stop on a two-point conversion with 30 seconds left to come away with the 14-12 victory on Friday night in the Rangers homecoming game.
