The Lakewood Center Associates celebrated 28 years of service during its March meeting. Several of the original members were on hand to be honored for having the vision years ago to open a gift and consignment shop to raise money to help retire the debt on the purchase of the former Lakewood Grade School.

The group opened the Re-Runs Shop March 17, 1984, and it has been open continuously since, earning ever-increasing profits that support arts programs at the center.

Founding members being honored included Jane Cook, Mary Deich, Dee Denton, Joan Hart, Harriet McEvers, Virginia Mullen, Peggy Oliver, Sally Robinson, Carol Strader, May Ann Swinford, Geri Tisdale, June Tofte, Adrienne Tromley, Kay Vega and Grace Wygal.

Lakewood Center Executive Director Andrew Edwards thanked the group for its recent gift of $10,000 to support the new rehearsal hall to be built on the premises.

“Each year more than 100,000 people use this building and we are the oldest local theater company still operating without a deficit. This would not be possible without the support from the associates and the Re-Runs Shop,” Edwards said.

The LCA is a volunteer group whose mission is to promote the welfare and serve the needs of the Lakewood Center for the Arts. For more information, contact Jan Colton at 503-636-0661.
