by: SUBMITTED PHOTO: - West Linn Parks and Recreation employee Tarra Wiencken is vacationing in Hawaii with her family. She works at the West Linn Adult Community Center.

Tarra Wiencken has been a full-time West Linn city employee for more than 10 years.

Officially, she’s a recreation coordinator, a job that sounds impossibly fun, and indeed, Wiencken says she loves her work helping orchestrate the Old Time Fair, Music in the Park, the holiday tree lighting and last week’s holiday bazaar.

She appears to be about 19 years old, but doing the math says otherwise.

Wiencken is a West Linn High School graduate who studied horticulture at Oregon State University and who enjoys gardening and traveling. She has three children, ages 8, 6 and 3, and she ought to look much more tired than she does.

Wiencken and her husband, Ryan, live in Beaverton, which means she must do daily battle with the traffic on Highway 217. This indicates she must really like her job here. Most years she and Ryan take the kids to Disneyland, but this year, as you read this, they’ll all be suffering warm weather in Hawaii.

Wiencken is also helping out on Tuesdays at the West Linn Adult Community Center where she helps Tiffany Carlson coordinate senior recreation. The two women conspire to introduce new programs at the WLACC that will complement our already full schedule of events.

Recently, they have added a Nia class and a kettlebell class that were previously detailed in this space.

Future possibilities include a Scrabble group and maybe a cribbage group. If you have suggestions, call the center and let them know.
