Winter break camps offered by LO Parks
At Lake Oswego Parks & Recreation, we see winter break as an opportunity to learn a new skill, so we've lined up some interesting and exciting camps for youngsters to enjoy. Here are some of the options:
Intro to Fencing Camp: Learn the basic tactical and technical skills of the Olympic sport of sabre fencing. This dynamic sport offers challenges to quick thinking, coordination, strength and stamina. Safety emphasized. Equipment provided. For ages 7-12; meets from 1-4 p.m. on Dec. 27, 28 and 29 at Palisades (1500 Greentree Road); cost is $98.
Holiday Around the World: Learn about the many holidays celebrated in winter around the world. Make crafts to give as gifts, bake cookies and learn about cultures different from our own. For ages 5-12; meets from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. from Dec. 18-22 at Palisades (1500 Greentree Road); cost is $185.
Beginning to Rock Camp: Newcomers are invited to put rock in their roll. Students get a chance to explore drums, bass, guitar, keyboard and vocals, and learn the fundaments of music, such as pitch, melody, harmony and rhythm. For ages 5-7; meets from 9 a.m.-noon from Dec. 18-22 at Palisades (1500 Greentree Road; cost is $144.
Recording and Music Technology Camp: Have fun experimenting with synthesizers, effects pedals and recording music on your computer. If you enjoy creating your own music and want to learn how to use computers and other music technology, this is the camp for you. Students are encouraged to bring in any instruments. For ages 7-12; meets from 1-4 p.m. from Dec. 18-22 at Palisades (1500 Greentree Road); cost is $144.
Drumming Madness Camp: Learn about different drumming patterns and different beats by using a variety of hand drums and drum sets. Come let loose and get ready to find your rhythm. For ages 7-12; meets from 9 a.m.-noon from Dec. 26-29 at Palisades (1500 Greentree Road); cost is $144.
Glee Week: Enjoy a fun week of singing with RMC Studios. Students will learn proper singing technique and posture and have the chance to sing their favorite songs solo and with a group. For ages 5-7; meets from 1-4 p.m. from Dec. 26-29 at Palisades (1500 Greentree Road); cost is $144.
Kids and Teens — Babysitter Training: Learn about accident prevention, handling emergencies, first aid, child development, positive supervision and the rights and responsibilities of a good babysitter. For ages 10-15; meets from 9 a.m.-3:45 p.m. on Dec. 9 at Palisades (1500 Greentree Road); cost is $93.
Adult City League Basketball: Get in the game! Open Division (ages 18+) Adult City League Basketball team and individual registration opens Wednesday, Nov. 29. Register at loparks.org, by calling 503-675-2549 or in person at Palisades (1500 Greentree Road). Managers must first create their team before players can register; individuals are not placed on a team.
Adult Drop-in Sports: Adult drop-in open gyms are provided for the fun and fitness of Lake Oswego residents ages 18+. Just drop in for recreational scrimmages and play. Adult drop-in sports include volleyball, pickleball and basketball. Bring ID; Lake Oswego residency will be checked at the door. Non-residents will be allowed to play on a space-available basis.
