by: CLACKAMAS COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - The driver of this Blue Pacific flatbed truck was killed Thursday when the forklift pictured to the left backed into the victim as he secured straps on his load.A man was killed Thursday afternoon at RSG Forest Products Molalla, after being run over by a forklift operated by a mill employee.

Mike Penunuri, a Molalla Fire District spokesman, said an investigation of the industrial accident is still ongoing at the mill, which is located at 28890 Highway 213 near Molalla.

According to sources, a 50-year-old truck driver for Blue Pacific Logistics had arrived at the mill around 1 p.m. Thursday and was waiting for his truck to be loaded with lumber when he was hit by the forklift used for loading lumber onto the trucks. This was the driver’s third trip for the day.

Clackamas County Sheriff’s Deputy Marcus Mendoza said the truck driver had gotten out of his truck and had begun to secure the load with straps while the truck was still being loaded, and the forklift backed into him.

A call was made to 911 at 1:20 p.m. Thursday reporting the accident. Clackamas County Sheriff’s deputies and Molalla Fire District paramedics responded at 1:40 p.m. OSHA accident investigators arrived shortly after.

CPR was attempted, but the man was pronounced dead. At that point, the medical examiners office handled investigation, Mendoza said.

Blue Pacific Logistics is a one-truck, one-driver operation based in Sisters, Oregon. David Moeller is the company vice president, according to online company information.

Penunuri said Clackamas County also activated its crash reconstruction team, a group of officers trained to go out and reconstruct an accident site, which is also investigating the accident.

The identity of the victim has not be released while the investigation is ongoing, Penunuri said.

RSG Forest Products is based in Kalama, Wash., with mills in Estacada, Mist and Molalla, Ore.
