by: CITY OF MOLALLA - Increased hours of operation at the MOlalla Aquatic Center this summer mean more pool time for kids. The city is adding back more pool time for kids and adults at the Molalla Aquatic Center, effective Monday July 7 through Friday Sept. 5.

“The city of Molalla is hearing from the public that if we were open more hours that more patrons would use the pool,” said city Finance Director Heather Penni in an email message. “In an effort to exhaust every option to help our aquatic center, the city is responding.”

The city will add back the Tuesday and Thursday morning hours from 6 a.m. to noon and will open recreation swims on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons from noon to 4 p.m.

These hours are all in addition to the existing schedule, adding 24 hours per week of available pool time back into the weekly schedule.

Penni said city administrators are “very hopeful” the community members who want to keep the aquatic center going will respond by encouraging all friends, neighbors, and of course themselves to use the pool. If patrons do not respond to the increased hours, that would “have an increased fiscal impact on the city of Molalla,” she said.

Recently the city had to cancel a “Mom & Me” swim class because not enough people signed up for it, she said.
