The Molalla Area Historical Society invites the community to come over for the 2017 Apple Festival.

The 2017 Molalla Apple Festival is set for Saturday, Sept. 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Molalla Area Historical Society's Dibble House Museum Complex, located at 620 S. Molalla Ave.

The Historical Society has been hosting the event since 1975, according to Iris Riley, the president of the Historical Society.

"What I have found in my adventures through archives is that The Apple Festival was created by the Historical Society in order to participate in a city-wide event called Pioneer Days," Riley said.

But the festival has outlived Pioneer Days, and at this year's event attendants can listen to live music while perusing the artisan vendors, participate in the homemade apple pie and judging contest, drink cider from Bauman Farms' first batch of the season and more.

In the morning, the Apple Festival staple Fiddlesticks will play some old-timey music; and in the afternoon, The Ben Rector Band will belt out some rock music.

Demonstrators will also be at the festival presenting skills such as butter making, hand embroidery and lace making.

The festival is free to attend, but the Historical Society asks guests to be generous with their donations since they survive on them.

"It's a good opportunity to come and see the museum, to come and touch base with Molalla's heritage, because the Dibble House is a big piece of that," Riley said. "It's the oldest house that's still standing in the south part of Clackamas County. It was built between 1856 and 1859."

After working hard to prepare for the event, the Historical Society wants to invite the community to come and enjoy.

"The festival is a way of us opening our doors and inviting people to come to our house and play," Riley said.
