Slide-related cracks in road close Eldorado Road Thursday
Clackamas County will close Eldorado Road at its southern intersection of Highway 213 this morning, Thursday, Jan. 18, before noon due to large cracks that widened over the weekend.
The cracks appear to be related to the large slide that is affecting Highway 213 in the same area, according to a news release from Clackamas County. The intersection is located slightly north of Mulino, uphill from the highway, in unincorporated Clackamas County.
Local residents are encouraged to use Union Hall Road as a detour route.
The Oregon Department of Transportation has begun work this month on Highway 213 in attempt to remediate the effects of the ancient slide. This is the second phase of work which involves installing horizontal drains below the highway to help drain water from the landslide area. This is expected to create an easier path for water to drain from the area, which reduces the potential for additional movement, according to ODOT.
The drain installation is expected to take several months.
County officials will monitor Eldorado Road closely during ODOT's work on the highway to see if it has an impact on the road.
Detour signs will be posted and area residents will be kept informed about any changes to the status of Eldorado Road, according to the news release.
