Molalla pair win big
In the past week, two Lottery retailers have sold two top-prize winning Oregon Lottery Scratch-its for a total of more than $135,000 in prizes.
Monday, Raymundo Martinez from Molalla claimed $75,000 after playing the "Did I Win?" Scratch-it. As it turns out, the "Did I Win?" name was very appropriate for Martinez's win, as he almost threw out the ticket after he played it.
"I looked at it, and thought I didn't win so I almost threw it in the trash," he said. "Then a friend said I should check it at the store. I did and saw that I won $75,000!"
Martinez purchased the ticket at Fred's Food-O-Mart, in Molalla. Retailers who sell winning tickets receive a 1-percent selling bonus on winning tickets over $10,000. So Fred's will see a $750 bonus. Martinez said he had several plans for the prize money, including getting a better car and putting it toward a new home.
Last Wednesday, Marissa Kolde, of Molalla claimed $60,000 after playing a "Mythical Money" Scratch-it. At first she thought she had won $500, but as she continued to play the ticket, she realized she won the top prize.
"I started crying immediately," Kolde said. "I'm still in shock, I'm not sure what we are going to do with the money."
Kolde and her husband Chris, said they purchased the ticket at the Astro's Express Mart in Molalla. Astro's will also receive a selling bonus of $600 bonus.
"We play Oregon Lottery because we know it goes to a good cause," Kolde said.
During the 2015-17 biennium in Clackamas County, where the Molalla Lottery retailers are located, more than $55.5 million in Oregon Lottery proceeds were directed to economic development, parks, education and watershed enhancement.
Lottery officials recommend that you always sign the back of your tickets with each Oregon Lottery game you play, to ensure you can claim any prize you may win. In the event of winning a jackpot, players should consult with a trusted financial planner or similar professional to develop a plan for their winnings. Prize winners of more than $50,000 should contact the Lottery office to schedule an appointment to claim their prize.
