Colton Corner: Principals swap jobs
On July 1, 2018 the current principals of the Colton School District will exchange positions. Tori Hazelton will move from the high school to the position of K-8 principal and Grant Hayball will become the principal at Colton High School.
"This was a team decision in the best interest of students, staff and administrators," Superintendent Koreen Barreras-Brown said in an email.
Hazelton addressed the change in the end-of-year school newsletter saying, "It is with great excitement that I will be assuming the K-8 principal role for the 2018/2019 school year. This transition is a bit bittersweet as I am leaving the high school that I have loved for the last 10 years, but I am beyond thrilled that I now get the opportunity to work with the students, families, and staff of Colton Middle School and Colton Elementary School."
In the end-of-year middle school newsletter Grant Hayball addressed the change: "As of July 1, I will become the high school principal for Colton. This is a dream come true, but at the same time, I will miss the middle school students and families that I have gotten to know. I appreciate this opportunity and the Colton community."
"Both are energetic principals who go the extra mile for Colton kids," said Craig Cervantes, who as the art educator at both the middle and high schools, has worked with both principals. "Ironically both Tori and Grant compete in triathlons, so both are ready every day for the rigors of being a principal. Both are amazing in my opinion!"
