Molalla’s girls soccer team lost 6-2 to Philomath in the first round of playoffs on Tuesday. The Indians showed a lot of improvement from the beginning of the season to the end, though.

Pre-season was rough for the girls. They opened with a 4-0 win against Junction City, but then they went on a three-game losing streak. They came out a little shaky in league play with a 1-1 tie to Gladstone and a 1-0 loss to La Salle.

However, they turned around their play the third league game against Estacada. The Indians took a 1-0 win in that game. The following week, they went on to beat North Marion 5-0 and Madras 3-0. Those weren’t the only shutout games the Indians played this season either. Their most recent clean sheet was against Coquille, who they beat 9-0 in the play-in round. That was following a 4-0 win over Madras in Molalla's final league game.

Molalla’s toughest league opponent this year was La Salle, who only lost one league game all season, to Gladstone. The Indians lost twice to La Salle. Both games ended 1-0.

The team graduates eight seniors in 2014. Alisha Larsen, Josie Child, Isabella Petitta, Shawna Cox, Bianca Delgado, Jenny Powell, Kelsey Brandt and Destinee Swigart.

However, they have several solid players returning next year.
